This is the official launch of the LEGACY AI Library, a next-generation platform dedicated to the exploration and analysis of classic texts using cutting-edge tools in AI and data visualization !

Born from years of development in epistemic engineering and open knowledge, LEGACY emerges from the evolution of the PEERS project and is now a standalone platform at the heart of the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) at UM6P. It is part of a visionary collaboration with Aix-Marseille Université, University of Chicago, Columbia CCCT, and several expert networks around the world.

📚 What is LEGACY?

LEGACY is a platform where you can read, explore, and connect the world’s most influential philosophical and scientific texts. But beyond access, it offers a deep networked experience of these works. You can:

  • Browse and search a curated library of seminal texts.
  • Upload your own editions of classic works.
  • Visualize connections between authors, schools of thought, and historical moments via graph-based exploration.
  • Engage with projects like Knowledge Tree (academic genealogy of philosophical thought) and La Grande Conversation (textual hyperlinking between major works).

🔍 A New Way to Explore the Canon

Whether you are a researcher, a student, or simply a curious mind, the LEGACY AI Library invites you to:

  • Follow the intellectual lineage of a philosopher or idea.
  • Discover how Augustine, James, Wittgenstein, and others are studied through academic networks.
  • Observe how one idea echoes across time and space through explicit citations and hidden philosophical resonances.

🔗 Built for Openness and Collaboration

LEGACY is:

  • Bilingual (English/French) and completely free to use.
  • Open source and built with sustainability in mind.
  • Designed for citizen science contributions, where the public can help refine genealogies and text mappings.
  • Continuously growing with the help of expert communities and institutional partnerships.

🤝 Join the Network

This launch is just the beginning. In the coming months, we’ll roll out:

  • A full-text comparison interface for different translations.
  • New visualization tools for exploring philosophical debates.
  • Direct links to partner archives and academic reviews.

We’re proud to offer a tool that reimagines how we read the past, and how we build intellectual futures.
